Day 7: First assessment

IMG 1449

Today was the first assessment in both my Algebra II and Honors Physics classes. We used Frank’s awesome “give yourself feedback” at the end of the assessment approach.

Before the quiz we had a short five minute discussion about why there’s no need to stress during assessments in our classes, and a few tidbits about Standards Based Grading. After explaining grading multiple ways—with hour long discussions and now with quick 5 minute chats, I’m a much bigger fan of the latter approach—explain the grading in bite-sized pieces, when students need it, with an emphasis on why it makes sense and will contribute to students’ learning.
