Day T-9: Ressurecting the air track

IMG 0918

My colleague and I are designing an investigation into energy conservation where we want students to find that energy is conserved in elastic collisions. Problem is, we aren’t having much lock finding really elastic collisions—we’re seeing 15% energy loss in dynamics carts that repel one another with magnets. So this afternoon, we decided to get the air track out from deep storage and take of 13+ years of dust to get it working. Tomrrow, we’ll see if we can get a little bit closer to perfectly elastic.
